Frankenstein

EN 101

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is often considered as one of the earliest science fiction novels written and, at the very least, a major contributor to the development of the genre. The first common misconception about this cursed anti-hero: Frankenstein is not the name of the "creature", which does not have a name, by design, but that of its creator. This revealing confusion takes on its full meaning as i read.

Victor talks about his parents and their special marriage. He also talks about the adoption of Elizabeth, which he considers to be his own. This relationship is strange. Victor tells the story of how he became interested in natural history and the sciences, launching into a nefarious passion which he, following a surprising event, gave up to devote himself to mathematics. But fate had decided otherwise ...

He leaves his family to go to college. A few days before his departure, his mother died. When he arrived at university on his own, he rediscovered a passion for chemistry thanks to Mr. Waldmann.

After two years of studying, he is seen as the best in chemistry. He wants to understand the principle of life and then launches into blameworthy work, he does not even forget his family. Looking back, he admits that a consuming passion is a wicked passion. Victor, whose last name we finally learn: Frankenstein, gave life to a creature designed from the ground up. Instead of ecstasy, he feels horror and disgust. The unexpected presence of his friend Henry makes him briefly happy, he then plunges into a madness from which he comes out only thanks to the care of his friend.

In this  first half of the novel, Mary Shelley questions the borders of our humanity in a manner that is so delicate by reversing the roles between creator and creation. It gives a monster more human qualities and awareness .
