Date and Time (second third)

Through reading Date and Time, a few poems came close to my past experiences and thoughts. “Ruby’s” was a poem of a young child who’s the favorite restaurant was Ruby's. They loved everything about it, the red barstools, illustrations on the menu, the crayons, and more. This reminded me of my favorite childhood restaurant, UNO’s. I loved the pictures on the wall, the menus that included tic tac toe boards, the TVs in every direction, and the food of course. I would always share a deep-dish pizza with my Dad when we went for dinner. I related to this poem and the memories it brought back to me. 

“Before the internet” reminded me of my childhood neighbor, Andrew. In the story, there are two bored friends who try to figure out what to do. After they watch Indiana Jones, they go outside and see a large tree. So they hooked some old bungee cords into one of their belts. He was connected all the way up in the tree. He thought he was Indiana Jones for a second before he fell on his. They laughed it out. This reminds me of when my neighbor Andrew and I tried to start a fire in my backyard. Not sure where we got the idea from, but we were inspired to start a fire. We started by skimming bark off the tree in the backyard. We made a big pile of bark and branches and were feeling very confident about our fire. I Snuck into the house and grabbed a lighter we usually use for candles. We used it to try to light our beautiful creation. Tragically it didn’t light, but we had a great laugh about it and this is still a great memory for me to this day.

     Phil Kaye’s poem " Date and Time " is a well-written poetry book filled with stories from his life, varying from his childhood to his adult life. Through these collections of poems in which Phil Kaye organizes by “Beginning, Middle and End” however he prefaces that it would not necessarily be in that order. Kaye exposes the readers to his various life experiences that not only express a range of emotions from the poet but evokes similar emotions from the reader as well.      The collections of poems each have their own story mixed with a unique structure and a title that illustrates each story told. Kaye begins the poem by calling It “end” which is interesting because it implies that these collections of poems will not be in a chronological order necessarily. iExamen 1

  Caitlin Dempsey EN-101-17 iExamen 1 September 27, 2020 I always have my phone on me, but I never realized how much I go on it. As much as I hate to admit it, I am one of those people who checks their phone first thing in the morning and right as they go to sleep. I woke up on Saturday morning and grabbed my phone to check the time. I then looked at my text messages, snapchats, and other social media accounts to see what I “missed” while I was asleep. I then continued my morning routine and went to get my coffee to wake up. I usually am not a morning person, so I don’t answer any texts or snapchats and remain relatively quiet until my “brain wakes up” after my coffee. Once I get myself together, I start to answer people and get on with my day.  I would say I use snapchat for my main form of communication with my friends. iExamine #2

  This iExamine was an interesting concept for someone who doesn’t think much of what they’re saying, but for me it wasn’t anything new. My life has already thought me through the lesson of watching what you say and that words have weight. The only way for me to truly learn in life is to make mistakes so of course in the past I’ve said things that hurt peoples feelings or said something that I thought was nice but it actually hurt someone. When I hurt someone by what I said it was never my intentions so that made me really cautious of everything I said. I try to learn my lesson from these mistakes so I can become a better person.  Learning a lesson is great but it means nothing if you don’t implement what you learned into your daily life so it’s definitely something that’s on my radar everyday and this assignment felt familiar.
