Wordsworth & Bolen - Bendu
The poem “I wandered Lonely as a
cloud” Is a poem about the connection between humans and nature. A concept we
have repeatedly talked about is further displayed in this poem. The speaker is
presented to be lonely and sad because of that loneliness however eventually
realizes nature is there. In fact, nature has always been there. The personification
of calling the daffodils a host and the trees dancing creates a sense of connection
and humanity to those apart of nature. Breaking the barrier between the speaker
and nature, as they are now filling up his gap and loneliness. The speaker continues
to reveal this dynamic between humans and nature, emphasizing that humans
should appreciate and embrace nature as it will help improve our moods and fill
our sense of loneliness.
In the poem “Quarantine” by Eaven Bolen, the dark reality of true love is seen between the journey and death of a couple
attempting to escape the harness of the Irish potato famine. In a sad but beautiful
depiction of this couple, Bolen is emphasizing the impacts of this potato time,
that many people lost loved ones due to this famine. Bolen is also revealing the
sacrifices one is willing to undergo when in love, that love allows one to overcome
these hardships. Through repetitive words like “together” or “both” she is emphasizing
that love. However, Bolen mentions almost as if speaking to the reader, “Let no
love poem ever come to this threshold”, as if criticizing this situation, displaying
that she believes love should be a happy thing, and should not be tested by such
unfortunate hardships.
